Vince Gilligan Shares He Knows How Pluribus Will Conclude... At the Moment.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would become a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

As the debut season of the acclaimed series wrapping up—and Season 2 officially in the works—the creative team reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

It would be easy to get swayed by the rampant praise and online debates surrounding Pluribus. He is striving to steer clear of all that.

“The experience is akin to an endless supply of something incredibly sweet and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's on purpose. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We don't try to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by what people are saying.”

“Better to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Does the showrunner See the Finale of Pluribus?

Considering Gilligan and his team are not listening by fan response, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… sort of.

“There are some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to abandon a decent plan for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Of course, why not reference the iconic TV endings?

“I want Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
