The former Liverpool manager states rejoining to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Anfield in 2024, remarked that returning someday is an option. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing near-decade reign featuring Champions League success and ending the club's long wait since 1990, has since taken on positions overseeing worldwide football with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
They secured the league title last season, yet numerous supporters who adore the manager would embrace the idea of his potential comeback. Speaking candidly, he explained to the podcast host: “I stated I will never coach any other side on English soil. Therefore in case it's my former club...yeah. It's plausible.”
“Being 58, which suggests I could make the decision down the line, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding the specific conditions must arise to bring him back to the dugout, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing during downpours for lengthy sessions; I'm glad to skip interviews repeatedly each week or doing numerous chats a week.
“The locker room isn't missed as a dressing room, yet sharing a meal with the players talking freely, is pleasant. Success was frequent so there was often positive atmosphere around the place. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
He spoke highly for his successor, crediting him due to the changes that took the title in the previous season. They've been defeated four in a row across various tournaments following significant transfers, though he denied the notion it could be a slump.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. An outstanding player. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. They have a strong thoughtfully assembled roster. No need for concern about Liverpool, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of Diogo Jota, a 2020 acquisition in 2020, and the effect at the club. The Portugal international lost his life in a road accident with his brother recently.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, it’s the guy he was. I can’t imagine the dressing room without him in it. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. A devastating blow for his teammates as well. Not a single person would cite it as an excuse though it's a fact. Being in that space where his spirit remains. Coping with it on a personal level is challenging. Impossible.”
