Paceman Atkinson Adds to the English team's Injury Problems.

'Significant concern' for England as Atkinson goes off due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson increased England's injury problems upon exiting the field on the second morning of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia.

The right-arm seamer experienced discomfort in his left leg immediately following a delivery of the fourth over at the MCG.

The England team stated the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and was to take time away from the action to undergo evaluation "during the day".

The concluding match of the series at the SCG gets underway on Sunday, 4 January.

The English side has been without fast bowlers one seamer due to knee trouble and another paceman because of a side injury on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was called up as cover for Wood.

Atkinson struggled early in the series, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was omitted for the Adelaide match, then recalled for the Melbourne Test to fill the void.

Surrey's Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, before adding 28 as a batsman as one of just three English batsmen to get into double digits.

Post a single over late on the first day, he returned on Saturday morning and had nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Unfortunately, towards the conclusion of his spell, he bowled a variation to the batsman and suddenly grabbed for his hamstring.

Atkinson was brought back for the Melbourne match following his omission the Adelaide game.
