Followers Call for Custody of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of Ariana Grande are urging that a individual who leaped a barricade and grabbed the actress during the recent Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared footage shows the Australian man pushing past media personnel and charging at Grande while the actors walked down a promenade flanked by fans.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being removed of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram recently that he was "free after being arrested", though official papers revealed that he was due to appear on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
History of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram profile contains videos of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney show in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last December.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user wrote.
Fans Voice Worry Over Grande's Past Trauma
Many followers criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented one more response on Instagram.
Some supporters also criticised security officers at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while others requested online networks to block Mr Wen's content.
Aftermath and Event Details
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande looked surprised when she was approached by the intruder. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Hundreds of attendees had assembled in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore mall, including a number who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The movie, to be launched on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-film adaptation of the well-known Broadway and West End show Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely friendship between two distinct witches.
The musical itself is a derivative of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a light pink sparkling outfit at the event while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a sleek black dress embroidered with roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of 2024 in the UK, and scored a dozen Oscar nominations, winning several for excellent wardrobe and production design.
