British Designer Antony Price, Celebrated for Styling Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect behind some of the most iconic looks worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.
His reputation was built on his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the soft-colored suits that featured in rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."
Price's death comes shortly after he debuted his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
A Lasting Legacy
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he started his work in men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with outfits on model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.
Collaborations with Icons
A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in designing body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "true original," according to the British Fashion Council.
In the 1990s, he commenced designing pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including several ensembles for her American tour after assuming the title.
Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in partnership with the label 16Arlington.
