Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for doubts to be asked about his position after a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the club's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a tough night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got a lot of support from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to change things and earn three points naturally but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it is normal that people question you.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, Slot explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the trust. However I've not talked to them since this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented known weaknesses from his squad in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell like this with results this poor.”
Jones stated, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to the top, show everyone again what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
